8 Faces Boundless Solid Oil is more than just amazing skincare for your face, and Founder Beth Shuman can back it up.
“I’ve had people message me saying it helped their child’s skin condition, a goop editor claimed it help fade a scar on her arm in time for her wedding, one woman uses it to protect her pup’s paws after walks on salty winter sidewalks,” she says. “Celebrity makeup artists use it in their kits for skin prep, and a woman from the prairies uses it on her horses’ tails to prevent tangles!”
When Shuman created 8 Faces, which is chock full of soothing organic ingredients, she thought it would offer something for everyone, but even she couldn’t have anticipated how the brand’s devoted fans are using it.
If you just use it for the face, you’ll be pretty pleased with the results. Its star ingredient is Amla berry – a super-fruit rich in natural Vitamin C. Unlike synthetic C, it’s not irritating but just as powerful at boosting collagen and imparting a glow.
The formulation is a solid concentrate that melts upon touch into a dreamy, fast-absorbing oil. The scent is so delicious and feel-good, like a spa treatment in a jar – think bright and energizing grapefruit, fresh geranium and mellow lavender.
The solid format makes it convenient for travelling and the scent, dabbed under the nose, is an effective antidote to any stale environment, from cabs to planes.
It’s made in Toronto and a little goes a long way – though that’s not enough reassurance for some. “This balm is the holy grail for so many customers,” says Shuman. “They can’t travel without it. I have one customer in NYC who orders 10 at a time as we often sell out!”
Soon, beauty aficionados in the UK, Australia, the EU and China will be able to experience this Toronto wonder-product as the brand extends globally. There’s also a supercharged Brilliance Serum on the way. For now, I am devoted to this daily ritual: scoop tiny amount of 8 Faces into hands, apply liberally where needed (mostly face and neck, sometimes hands) and breathe deeply.
